The Industry Link Committee of the IT Department arranged a visit to the (IMC) International Marble Co LLC, located in Al-Arid, Ibri, Al Dhahira Region, Sultanate of Oman on Thursday, September 22, 2016.

The IT department was represented by Mr. William, Mr. Prabu and Mr. Junath. The purpose of this visit was to observe IT-related operations in the company, discuss and identify the company's requirements in order to establish a relationship with IMC. The objectives of the visit were to initiate the possibilities of establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the near future, find opportunities for students' industrial visits, involving our students in the course project development, to facilitate On the Job Training and seek career opportunities for our graduates.

The committee was received by the General Manager of IMC, Mr. Hussein Al-Kalbani, the Administration Manager, Mr. Turki Al-Yaqoobi and Mr. Manoj Joseph, the Operations Manager. The General Manager briefed them on the company's profile, the different QA Standards that IMC received, technology that is being used, production, resources and its recent local and international projects.

Furthermore, the committee was also given an opportunity to visit its Quality Control Department where the Operations Manager expounded the required automation in the packaging section, using image processing which is a pattern matching technique, which can be considered as a Research and Development Consultancy Project of the Department. While visiting the IMC's factory, it was noticed that almost all sections had its robotic system and that they were using the latest technology. However, the team identified that the Workshop Store Section needed to be computerised. After the factory visit, the group visited the quarry where both teams had a discussion on the purpose of the visit. To conclude, the committee identified two project proposals which are the Bar Code Tracking System and the Workshop Store Management System.

In addition, the System Administrator's position in IMC was vacant and so the team was asked to recommend a dynamic and challenging candidate through the OJT, IT Department.

The IT team left IMC at 6:00 pm on the same day.
