Writing a Research Document Using LaTeX

The Staff Development Committee of IT Department, in association with Research and Consultancy committee of Ibri College of Technology, organized a workshop on “Writing a Research Document using LaTeX” on 09th June 2016.   The resource person for the workshop  was Dr. Sanjay Kumar Tyagi, Assistant Professor in Mathematics from the College of Applied Sciences, Ibri. The session started at 10 am in Lab2.

The objectives of this event were to enhance the knowledge of IT Department staff on preparing an effective research document and to give them an exposure to the new software – LaTeX, and its necessity.

Dr. Ashish Seth welcomed the workshop participants and introduced the resource person.

The speaker started by introducing Latex and explained its importance in preparing a well-formatted research document. He also discussed the basic features of the software and recommended to install MikTek as the back-end and TexMaker as a front-end tool.

Dr. Sanjay provided the necessary instructions to initially start Latex and the audience were given a practical experience of the software in the lab. The participants were given practice worksheets while the speaker explained how to work on it.

Dr. Sanjya comprehensively explained how to write an abstract, the body of the research article, the references and bibliography. He gave more details on using mathematical symbols and equations and creating tables, matrices and inserting figures.

The workshop ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Ashish while Dr. Pugalarasu, HoS-Math,  presented a memento and certificate to the speaker as a token of gratitude.

The session was more informative and interactive. A total of 22 staff members participated in the workshop which ended at 11:30 am.
