Brain-Based Dos and Dont's of English Language Teaching
Abstract

In this session, participants will learn what English teachers need to know about how first and second language literacy is formed in the human brain, what they can do to maximize 2nd language mastery, and what they should NOT do. They will learn that a brain-based approach is necessary to allow learners to learn to their best depending on their developmental level and age.
BIO Note
Dr. Christel Broady, Endowed chair, professor, and Director of the ESL teacher Education at Georgetown College in the USA, is an international leader in language teaching. Over the past 20 years, she has served in many leadership roles with TESOL International (member of the TESOL Board of Directors 2018-2021), Kentucky (president of KYTESOL), and the Southeast TESOL. Her list of domestic and international leadership roles, publications, keynotes, plenary talks, presentations, awards, and recognition is extensive. In addition, as an English Language Specialist for the US Department of State, Christel conducts assignments abroad. These activities and being an English learner herself allow her to learn about other countries from the ELT professionals, governments, and citizens.
