The Students Activities and Community Service Committee opened its first Speaking Café on Tuesday, 16 October 2018. The committee is headed by Ms Hind Al Mahrooqi.
It was decorated with useful English idioms with pictorial and verbal explanations. Coffee and refreshments were also served.
Dr Sultan Al Ghafri, the head of the English Language Centre, inaugurated the café. He highlighted the importance of communication skills, especially speaking, during his welcome speech.
A speech competition was conducted by Dr Mohsin and a number of male and female students participated enthusiastically. Ms Rahma, Ms Lubna and Ms Mariette judged the students’ performance. The winners were:
1. Reham Salim Saif Al Gharibi
2. Shoukat Qasim Shoukat Al Balushi
3. Omaima Hafedh Mohammad Al Shibani
Students also played various board games related to speaking skills. A quiz was conducted to test students’ vocabulary. The winner of the quiz will be announced in the coming Speaking Café.
The Speaking Café is set up in the main lobby of the first floor. It is open to all students of the college. It is open every Tuesday from 12:00 to 2:00pm.
