Industrial Visit to Synergies Castings Oman (SCO)-Sohar

A team of six members from the mechanical and electrical section, including Dr. B. Geetha, Dr. G. Kumaravel, Mr. Ahmed Al Adwani, and Mr. Irshad, as well as Mr. Abdul Mailk (Technician) and Mr. Ali (from the OJT department), visited Synergies Castings Oman (SCO), which manufactures aluminum alloy car wheels for the automotive industry. Mr. Aymen Al Kharosi, Manager, HSE, greeted the team and explained the company's operations. The academic team has informed Mr. Aymen Al Kharosi about the purpose of their visit, such as to know the working process of the company, OJT and job opportunities for students, the involvement of robotics in their working process, and other details about robotics. Mr. Chandra, the production manager, took us on a tour of the production line and explained the processes to make the product. He described the entire process, beginning with the making of alloys for wheels, casting, painting, quality inspection, property testing, and final visual inspection. In the casting process, CNC machining and painting robotics were used. In the near future, the company is willing to sign an MOU and allow student visits, training, and research activities. Overall, the visit helped the academic team understand the expectations of the industry and the skills needed by the students for the job market.
