Industrial visit to Public Authority of Electricity and Water (DIAM)

The OJT and Industrial Link Committee of the Engineering Department organised a visit to the electricity and water pump station at Diam.

The visit was meant for Diploma and Advanced Diploma students. Eleven students and two staff members, Mr Mohammad Tahir and Mr Krishnakumar from Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Sections, undertook the visit on 16 October 2018, from 11.30pm to 2.30pm. 

The Public Authority for Electricity and Water (Diam) provides high quality sustainable and reliable potable water and power services to all people in the Sultanate of Oman.

The following work is carried out by this pump station:

• distribution of water for Ibri and Yanqul

• building, operating and maintaining other water plants and networks

• approving and monitoring the technical specifications of water equipment and tools

• operational maintenance of pump stations.

 

Mr Khalfan Al Aryami and Mr Naseer, maintenance engineers, welcomed the staff and students, and gave a brief introduction about company activities.

They explained the operation of the pump station, which is located in Al-Arid. A detailed explanation about the working of the multi-stage pump, the backpressure relief valve, the water reservoir and water treatment plant was given. Students were also invited to the opportunity of doing OJT within the company.

During the session, the students interacted with the engineers. The students expressed their thanks to the officials for the opportunity to visit the pump station and to the organizers Mr Mohammed Riyaz and Mr Zaid Al Badi.
