Awareness Programme on Preventive Maintenance in Electrical Laboratories

The Risk Management Committee of the Engineering Department organised a programme on ELECRICAL SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE IN THE ELECTRICAL LABS AND WORKSHOP on 22 April 2019 from 2 to 3 pm.

Mr Balan Kumizhikunnel Veetil, technician, Electrical and Electronics, conducted the programme.

The presentation focused on laboratory maintenance and procedures to be followed regarding electrical safety in the workshop and laboratories. The presentation stated with a technical explanation about the maximum amount of electrical power a human body can handle.

The speaker also explained the root causes of electric shock and showed the importance of proper earthing. A clear explanation was given on the function of the circuit breaker during overloading and the importance of earth leakage circuit breakers was stressed. The presentation finished with the safety rules to be followed in the electrical laboratories and tips on maintaining tools to avoid accidents.

This programme was well-received by the staff and highly beneficial to the participants.
