This congress invited different IEEE students from the various Gulf States to participate in its activities. One of the participants was the Oman section of the IEEE. The activities involved robotics competitions, projects competition and the several workshops.

Robotics competition:

In this competition, the participants should have a robot which is able to do many tasks in short time. This robot should be able to walk through a dark path by detecting the available light, be able to detect a candle (fire) and turn it off, be able to detect the colours to hold colourful balls and put them in the corresponding colour’s position, be able to hold a rope to reach a bell on the top of a hanging object and make it ring, and able to follow a black line and make a sound when it detects a sound through that line. The best one should perform all that jobs correctly in a short time. The first place in this competition was the team from Al Musannah College of Technology.

Project competition:

In this competition, a project related to Engineering, especially Electronic and Electrical Engineering, was displayed.

The project topics were the following:

  • Portable Braille Display
  • E-Watch
  • ApproUnity
  • Spectral Mammography with photon Counting Detector for Enhanced Breast Tissue Contrast
  • Mechatronics System
  • Vehicle Management and service Options
  • Automatic BHS System for Offloading Unclaimed Baggage at Airports

Overall, the best project was done by Qatar University.

The Workshops :

There are several workshops conduced in this congress which discussed topics that are related to the fields of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

Conclusion :

This kind of congress is very useful for students for many reasons. Firstly, they help to meet different students and share their experiences with others. Secondly, they help to expand the students’ knowledge by attending several workshops. Finally, it supports students to do their own projects in future. I advise all to join to these congresses to benefit from them.
