6th iTech Marathon-2022: National Level Student Virtual Symposium

The Information Technology Department has successfully conducted its 6th iTech Marathon 2022, a 1-day national-level student virtual symposium on “Artificial Intelligence Technologies and Mathematical Modeling for Socio-economic Development towards Oman Vision-2040” in 24th March 2022.  The symposium aimed at providing a platform for university and college students to share their research-based or project-based ideas towards Oman Vision 2040 and to bring together young Omani researchers who can share ideas and applications on AI and mathematical modelling such as in commercial establishments and enterprises, government, or other institutions that will help promote in attaining the goals set out in the Oman Vision 2040. Furthermore, this symposium has provided a platform to explore novel ideas on machine learning, data analysis, and statistics through effective algorithms, scientific methodologies and mathematical models to boost the AI-based innovations.  There were sixteen (16) articles accepted from five (5) institutions namely:  UTAS-Muscat, UTAS- Salalah, UTAS-Nizwa, UTAS-Ibra and UTAS-Ibri.  The symposium was inaugurated Dr Amal Al-Abri, HoD-IT, followed by a keynote session.

After the symposium, a feedback was collected from the students.  On a scale of 1-5 where 5 is the highest, the result of the feedback was 4.4.  The department intends to conduct another student conference in future and publish articles in reputed journals.
