The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS-Ibri), through the Staff Development Committee of IT Department has conducted a 2-day talk on Software Testing Concepts in 12th and 19th March 2013, through MS Teams. The invited speaker was Ms. Chaithanya Annaji, a certified Software Application Test Engineer with more than 10 Years of experience in Manual Testing which includes writing and executing test cases, and reporting and prioritizing reported bugs. She worked as a software test engineer in most notable companies in India including O2, a mobile network service provider in the UK and Wolters Kluwer, a taxation consultation company based in the USA. Currently, she is connected with the famous Wells Fargo Bank in Hyderabad. Before the speaker delivered her talk, she was welcomed and introduced by Mr William, the coordinator of Staff Development Committee at UTAS-Ibri (IT Department).
The speaker started the presentation by sharing her observations about testing that were taken from Myers and Dijkstra. She reiterated further that testing will start when the requirement documents are available. Software Development Life Cycle (waterfall) and each stage is explained and given more emphasis on the testing stage. Following the SDLC, she explained the software testing life cycle from its requirements analysis, test planning, test case development, environment set up, test execution and test cycle closure. This test is very important because if there is such a case or test that did not pass the requirements, the team has to raise a defect to the developer which the developer has to look into it and tries to fix the code and gives back to the team. After which, Ms Chaitanya also discussed the defect life cycle (Bug Life Cycle), some test cases scenarios, testing techniques such as black box testing and white box testing and lastly the types of software testing to the audience. Before the presenter ended her first part of her presentation, the moderator asked the audience if there are clarifications they need to ask, however, the audience did not have any question except that the moderator threw a question regarding to agile methodology versus the traditional waterfall life cycle -and Ms Chaitanya responded it in a way the moderator and the audience can understand.
March 19 – SW Testing Concepts
The second part of the presentation was scheduled in 19 March 2023 where Ms Chaitanya started her talk on how to improve security followed by the different types of non-functional testing. She explained what performance testing is all about, load testing, stress testing, volume testing, security, compatibility, install testing, recovery testing until compliance test. After having explained the roles and functions of these different types of testing, the speaker presented a demo on how to apply on the different testing requirements.
The session was attended by 26 students and staff, and a feedback was taken after the conclusion of the session. As a result, the speaker was given a mean score of 4 on a scale of 1 to 5, where was the highest. The UTAS-Ibri (IT Department) has shared with Ms Chaithanya, a Certificate of Appreciation as a gesture for sharing her time and expertise through webinar.
