The Information Technology Department, represented by the Public Relations and Marketing Committee, organized a visit for software engineering students under the supervision of Mr.Abdullah bin Mubarak Al-Shukaili, an Information Technology lecturer, to the main branch of Omantel on Monday, November 27, 2023. The purpose of the visit was to explore practical applications of Fifth Generation (5G) services related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The visitors were welcomed by Monther bin Na'man Al-Farsi, a Human Resources Specialist. At the start of the visit, Harith bin Mohammed Al-Ghilani, a Network Security Specialist, presented on the services of the Fifth Generation and its integration with Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things. The lecturer provided an overview of the Internet of Things and its connection with Artificial Intelligence to achieve practical applications that serve daily life. He also discussed some applications utilized in these technologies through the services offered by Omantel, supported by Fifth Generation technologies.

Subsequently, Monther Al-Farsi provided an introduction to the new divisions of the Omantel building, explaining that it is divided into the Moon building, symbolizing the future, and the Sun building, symbolizing the past and present. The team was then guided on a tour of the Moon building, which features practical applications of Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things, including:

1. The Fifth Generation Tunnel (5G Tunnel)

2. The Smart Shop

3. The Interactive Library

Afterwards, the team continued their visit to the Sun building, which houses a museum of technologies and devices previously used in telecommunications. Monther Al-Farsi gave a brief overview of each device, its uses, and comparisons with current technologies and devices. The visit concluded with the students expressing their appreciation for learning about

the latest technologies and their relevance to their coursework, hoping for more such field visits in the future..
