The Engineering Department is going to offer a B-tech degree in Electrical Power from the next academic session 2018-19. Some of the engineering staff, including the head of the Engineering department, visited Majan Electric Company on Thursday, Ibri to observe the feasibility of lab experiments such as high voltage testing equipment along with scrap material, which are used by students to understand the theoretic concepts and for laboratory experiments.

Among the following given list of high voltage testing, lab experiments 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9 can be performed at Majan Electric Company.

Majan Electric Company agreed to give the scrap material (listed below) for educational purposes which we are requesting, provided the authorization letter was routed through the proper channels.

High voltage testing lab experiments

  1. Generation of high voltages (AC and DC)
  2. Control of impulse in the generation
  3. Different types of breakdown strength in solids and gases
  4. Different measurement tests like resistivity test, dielectric constant and loss factor
  5. Partial discharge method
  6. Testing of insulators
  7. Testing of cables
  8. Testing of transformers, circuit breakers, and testing of surge diverters
  9. Insulation co-ordination on high voltage

Scrap material required.

  1. Transmission or distribution line circuit breakers
  2. Different types of transmission or distribution line insulators, isolators
  3. Different types of protective relays (current, voltage, earth, fault relay)
  4. Current transformer and potential transformers
  5. Different types of fuses
  6. Surge arresters
  7. Earthing tools

Majan company was also requested to visit Ibri College of Technology and deliver lecture which could benefit the engineering students in their studies and future as well, which was accepted.
