An industrial visit was carried out at Majan Electric Company on 15 March 2018 for Advance Diploma Electrical Power students.

The main objective behind the visit was to make students aware how various activities related to students will gain the practical knowledge on power distribution substation capacity, power systems equipment and apparatus like power transformers, current transformers, potential transforms, different types of relays, circuit breakers, feeders, distributors, service mains, different types of insulators, isolators, capacitor banks, operation of metering section, battery section, earthing arrangements and working of the power distribution substation. Human Resource operations ensure that students are made to feel like engineers when they start their training.

12 students departed for the visit at 8:30am reached our destination after 30 minutes. The company is located in Thayab in Ibri city. As soon as we reached company we were guided by Mr Marwan where an orientation of the primary distribution substation company was given by Mr Mubarak, head of department, about its history and how the primary distribution substation company was established and functions. For three hours, we witnessed a complete set of primary distribution substations. This was followed by questions from the students. I appreciate staff member who guided students with each and every question with detailed answers.

It is rightly said that “see and know” is better than “read and learn”. Students experienced a real feel of the operation of the primary distribution substation after this visit. They had a chance to transfer their theoretical knowledge into practical application. This will even help students to understand subject matter clearly in future also.

Along with students, I would like to extend our gratitude to the company for the permission and support they gave to make our visit a success with accomplishment of objective and our HOD Mr Nasser Al Shammakhi, for arranging this visit for our students.
