In collaboration with University Tenaga National in Malaysia, the Information Technology Department, represented by Dr Qais Qassim, participated in the International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICoEngTech) 2021 organised by the Faculty of Electronic Engineering Technology - Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).

The conference was held online on 15 and 16 March 2021. UniMAP's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr R Badlishah Ahmad, officiated the conference, followed by a keynote speech delivered by Prof Dr Prayoot Akkaraekthalin on sensor technology and applications. Afterwards, multiple parallel sessions were organised based on distinct themes. It is worth mentioning that all accepted and presented papers will be submitted to Journal of Physics: Conference Series Proceedings, a conference proceedings journal indexed in CPCI – Web of Science and SCOPUS.

Dr Qais presented his paper titled "Threat Assessment Model in Electrical Power Grid Environment", which was chosen as one of the top ten best papers in the conference. The paper's main contribution was to propose a conceptual model to efficiently and systematically model SCADA systems in the electrical power domain, which can also be extended to model various other domains. The model describes the architectural information and provides a guide to handle the complexity, heterogeneity and scale of SCADA systems. Moreover, the proposed model transforms the security vulnerability assessment procedure into a systematic process.
