5th iTech Marathon 2021

The 5th iTech Marathon Event (Inter-Collegiate National Level Competition) was conducted on 24 June 2021 based on the theme of “Technological innovation challenge for smart cities”. 

The aim of this activity was to promote students’ competence in using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and to enhance and widen their ability in applying knowledge and skills in a diverse and competitive environment.    

The event witnessed enthusiastic preparation and participation. It was graced with the presence of Dr Shadha Al Amri, Oman Smart City Ambassador, Head of  Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department Academic Researcher in the Information Technology Department (UTAS-Muscat). In her speech she explained Oman’s Smart City Platform and conveyed her best wishes to the students for the competition. A welcome message and introduction of the event was given by Ms Fatma Al Shamili, Head of IT-Sec and the closing ceremony was done by Dr Amal  Al Badi, head of the Information Technology Department.

• IT Contest –“Information Technology in smart cities”  
• Math Contest –“Mathematical tools in smart city projects “

Seven teams from the different universities participated in this event. They presented their ideas about smart cities and how to use mathematical tools in smart cities projects. They discussed different ideas about smart cities like Low-Cost Smart Poultry Farming Based on IoT, Protecting the world, and benefiting plants, Zero-capital Cloud E-commerce web applications for smart enterprises, Ebanah, and Mathematical tools in Smart city projects. Participants had 20 minutes to explain and ten minutes for judges to ask questions. Many people attended this event. All the students enthusiastically participated and showcased their brilliance by answering the questions. This event was very informative and knowledge enriching experience for everyone.
