As part of the continuous efforts to promote consultancy services through enhancing the demand skills of our staff members, the Research and Consultancy Committee (RCC) and the Staff Development Committee (SDC) of the IT department have organized a workshop on data mining titled, “An Adaptive Approach for Discovering Knowledge from Web Usage Data based on Web Mining Techniques and Application” in June 9th 2022, at 10:00 AM. The webinar was delivered by an invited guest speaker, Dr. Ahmed J. Obaid, an Assistant Professor from the University of Kufa, Iraq. Mr. Shaik Asif Basha, SDC Coordinator, introduced the guest speaker and welcomed the attendees. Afterwards, Dr. Obaid started his session by thanking the organizers for their invitation.

The main focus of the webinar was on servers’ log files and their various formats and types. Additionally, he demonstrated the issues related to collecting data and analyzing log files. The session also described the processes of server-log file feature extraction and pattern discovery. Additionally, the speaker introduced a new concept known as ‘web mining’, and discussed how different it is from data mining.

In the end, the speaker highlighted several points in the research gap for potential future research direction in web mining.  After an informative and well-structured presentation, the guest speaker allotted some time for the Q&A session. About 16 staff members attended the webinar, which lasted for one hour. The session was concluded at 11:20 AM after an acknowledgement message addressed by Mr Asif.

The feedback was collected from the participants on a scale of 5; the result of the feedback was 4.6.
