Conference attended at Sultan Qaboos University

With the aim to encourage students towards learning & studying mathematics, Oman Mathematics Committee (OMC) on Oman Mathematics day 5, 19th Nov. 2019, organized one-day conference for students. 

From IbriCT 9 students (5 from IT-Dept. & 4 from Engg. Dept.) with Mohammed Sarfaraz Hussain, lecturer-Math, attended this conference. It was of two session and both were in Arabic. 

Session-1: 

Started at 9:30am with welcome speech and a video on OMC 2019 activities. Keynote speaker Dr. Majda Al Hinai briefed about Govt. support on studying mathematics and various activities in Mathematics of most of the colleges of Oman. Second and the last lecture of first session was by Ms. Safeya Al Sheli, learning disabilities supervisor, on “ it is not too hard to inspire, but it’s too hard to be inspired: how teaching Mathematics to children with LD should work for them and for us” .  She highlighted the government support for these children and number of schools & institutions across Oman. She also explained assessments pattern, which is specially designed for disabled children. She added that now, with the support of government, everyone can get education including blind and deaf.

Session-2:

This session was of only one lecture of one hour by Dr. Huda Al Shuaily, HOD-IT, HCT.

She presented on the “role of Mathematics in Technology”.  She started with a discussion on different innovations, ideas and development of technology.  Further, she explained importance of mathematics in various fields like medical, security, research and many more. Throughout the lecture, she was motivating all the students towards learning mathematics.  It was an interactive session. Session ended at 12:00noon.
