The Electrical and Electronics Section of the Engineering Department with the assistance of the Engineering Society, organized a workshop entitled, PIC Microcontrollers and Its Applications, for two days, on May 11 and 18 respectively, 2017, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, at the Analog and Digital Laboratory. The workshop had 18 Advanced Diploma and Bachelor Level Electronics Engineering student participants. Dr. Carlos Santos, Mr. Reddy Ganesh, and Mr. Abdul Hafeez Sajid were the Resource Speakers of the workshop.

Dr. Carlos was the first presenter and lecturer who started by sharing his experiences with the PIC Microcontroller and its various applications.

Mr. Sajid soon followed after with the introduction of the architecture and instruction set of PIC 16F84A Microcontroller and presented a few basic programs. Assembly Language Programming was included in the discussion in this session. The session also covered MP Lab IDE used for compiling the PIC Program, written in Assembly and C Programming Languages. At the end of the session, Mr. Sajid showed some real time applications of PIC Microcontroller.

A week later, the second day of the workshop took place with Mr. Sajid taking over the stage. He discussed a lot on Assembly Language Programming and High Level Language Programming, where he focused specifically on the use of C Programming Language in writing the program for the PIC Microcontroller.

Mr. Reddy Ganesh, was the last speaker who shared his knowledge about the use of the C Programming Language for PIC Microcontrollers. He discussed the Control Statements in C Language and MikroC IDE used for compiling the Embedded C Program for the PIC Microcontroller.

The students had hands-on experiences in using Mikro C IDE and PIC KIT2 for burning the program unto the chip in the practical sessions. The students also learned how to write some simple programs using C Programming Language.
