The Electrical and Electronics Engineering Section of the Engineering Department, Ibri College of Technology held their regular Orientation Program for their Diploma and Advanced Diploma students currently taking Project courses.

The Program was on September20, 2017 (Wednesday), 10 am, at the Multi-Purpose Hall, with 114 students present. Dr. V. Ilankumaran, Head of Section, spoke on the importance of choosing the Project Supervisor and made them aware of the new Student Project Policy, which was implemented this semester.

The new policy was drafted by the Student Project Policy Department Committee. They made some changes in the process of how to choose projects, the forms being used, the evaluation and assessment criteria in making the students’ marks, and so forth.

A major change that has impacted both staff and students is on the projects that will be undertaken this semester. The previous practice was that staff members submit as much as they can come up with, of possible project titles and circuit/schematic diagrams in the prior semester, which the Head of Section evaluates. Those that were feasible were forwarded to the store manager to check the availability of the components. From among those project titles the components are available and students can choose which they prefer doing. Now, the Committee reviews a specified number of project titles that were proposed, submitted, and written on a specified form of the previous semester. Those project titles that the Committee approves will be the ones the students have to do. Anyone who proposes a different project other than those approved will have to make a proposal to the Committee for review.
