Alignment of Assessment Questions and Cognitive Levels
The Curriculum Review Committee of the Information Technology Department conducted a workshop on 31 October 2018 on the alignment of assessment questions and cognitive levels for the Information Technology and Mathematics staff, in Lab A109.
The objectives of the workshop were to:
- Review the midterm and final examination papers;
- Verify if the assessment questions are aligned with cognitive levels or not;
- Verify that the assessment questions are appropriate to the level of study; and
- Review item analysis of final examinations.
Dr Duhai Al Shekaili, head of the Information Technology Department, discussed the need and importance of the workshop. In his presentation, he conducted a short quiz for the staff to let them identify the type of the question according to Bloom’s Taxonomy. There was a group discussion among the staff and each group had to provide the answer.
Mr Mastan (Curriculum Review Committee Coordinator) and Ms Iman, as a member in the committee, conducted an activity regarding the reviewing of examination papers and the staff need to redefine the type of the question according to the Bloom’s Taxonomy and each group had to present, to highlight the type of the question. The workshop provided a mechanism for the staff in preparing their examination papers. The head of the department closed the workshop by thanking the Curriculum Review Committee for organising the workshop.
The workshop achieved a feedback mean score of 4.089.
