The ELC organized a tremendous and flashy awarding ceremony for the top three achievers of each level in Foundation and Post-foundation students on 8 of May 2018. Since the respected head of ELC, Dr. Sultan concerns a lot in engaging students in the various activities and occasions, the ELC Students’ Activities Committee has prepared and trained more than 7 students to run the ceremony. The event received satisfactory feedbacks and compliments from the assistant dean, Mr. Younis and all the teachers who participated in the ceremony. The top achievers were awarded by the sponsor of the event, Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Manthari, Assistant dean and Dr. Sultan. The employees of the month including Mr. Faisal Alshamali (February) Dr. Mohsen Amiri (March) and Ms. Maha Aldarei (April) were also awarded with the certificates. At the end of the ceremony, five students of the English Society appreciated Dr. Sultan for his outstanding efforts for the ELC with their notes.

The ELC Students’ Activities Committee kept everyone on the edge of their seats during the recent speech competition held within the ELC.

The competition ran over two days.  The first day was on Sunday, 25 March 2018, seventeen students from Levels 1-4, took part.  At the end of the first round, six students qualified to go through to the final round.  The final was on Wednesday, 28 March 2018.

The English Language Students’ committee from Moquniyat school in coordination with ELC organized a workshop entitled ‘Lead and Speak Project’ on 22nd of March 2018 in Multi-Purpose Hall (Engineering Building). The students from Muquniyat School organized a number of activities that showed their leadership skills through effective communication in English.

On the 47th glorious National Day, the Students’ Activities Committee conducted various activities to cherish this blessed day. The respected dean of college Dr. Said Masoud Ali Kashoob and the honored guests participated by visiting the various stalls exhibited by students. The committee carried out the following activities.

  • Decorating the ELC corridor
  • Organizing Students’ Talents Corner
  • Conducting National Day Competitions
  • Presenting a Speech on the Importance of National Day

The English Language Centre-Academic Advising Council conducted a workshop on "Self Study Skills" from November 13 to November 16, 2017 at Ibri College of Technology.

Mr. Abdullah Al Balushi, ELC-Academic Advising Coordinator, spearheaded the said workshop. He said that the program aims to improve the “self-study skills” of foundation students in and outside the four walls of the classroom.

The said workshop enlightened the students by being adept to various study habits techniques and strategies. Each session lasted for one hour followed by a free discussion between the presenter and the students. Furthermore, the presenter used PowerPoint Presentation to engage students to actively participate in the session.

All foundation program students were scheduled on different dates according to their respective levels.

Students were given a chance at the end of each session to point out any problems or difficulties that they usually face in the classroom or in the examinations.

Meanwhile, the Academic Advising Coordinator will submit the concerns of the students to the Acting Head of ELC, Dr. Sultan Al Ghafri.

ELC Professional Development Committee organized a workshop for E-Learning (Moodle) on November 1, 2017. The purpose of this workshop was to provide necessary training to all the staff members of ELC, in using Moodle for effective teaching and learning.

Almost all the lecturers of Foundation and Post Foundation programs attended this activity.

In ELC

The English Language Centre conducted a workshop on the use of Turnitin in Moodle last October 19, 2017, at Ibri College of Technology.

Mr. Abdullah Al Shukeily, Head of Educational Technologies Center, spearheaded the said workshop by explaining the process of creating assignments through the use of the college e-learning system or Moodle. This system provides lecturers, administrators and learners with integrated system to create a personalized and active learning environment.

The E-Learning committee of the English Language Centre organized a workshop on how to use E- Learning for foundation students on Tuesday, October 10 and Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at different timings in the Lecture Theatre, Engineering building. Ms. Budoor, Lecturer, ELC conducted the workshop for all the four levels of the foundation programme.

The English Language Centre conducted a two-day orientation program on academic advising and counselling at the VIP Room of Ibri College of Technology on October 9 and October 10, 2017.

The first session comprised of 28 students from levels 3 and 4 while the following session was attended by 48 students from levels 1 and 2. The said attendees were chosen according to their academic performance and attendance last semester.
