National Symposium on Business and Economics 2018

The Department of Business Studies at Ibri College of Technology organised the National Symposium (NSBE 2018) on the theme “Emerging Issues, Challenges and Opportunities in Business Management and Economics” on Thursday, 10 May 2018. The event focussed on providing a profound and interactive platform to academics, researchers, industrialists, professionals and alumni to come up with their research, findings and views in support of Oman’s economic proliferation.

The time for registration of presenters and guests was between 9:00am and 10:00am in the Engineering building reception. The event commenced at 10:00 am with a recitation of the Holy Quran in the presence of the Guest of Honour, Mr. Saif Said Al Badi (Chairman, Chamber of Commerce, Dahirah region, Ibri), the college dean, Dr Said Masoud Al-Kashoob, Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, Mr Younus Al-Zaabi, Assistant Dean Student Affairs, Ms Nawal Al Sawafia, presenters from different parts of Oman, panellists, judges, guests, faculty members, alumni, students and attendees in the Lecture Theatre.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr Mohammed Abed Ali. Dr Ansarul Haque hosted the event. The Guest of Honour was felicitated with a memento by the college dean. The panel discussion, hosted by Mr Asif Mahmood, took place at 10:30am, where four eminent and highly endowed professionals, Dr Salem Al-Abri (HOD, Management at SQU), Dr Ahmed Al-Abri (Acting Chief Executive Officer at Ports Management and Operation Company "MARAFI", Dy CEO, Oman Drydock Company), Mr Sultan Rashid (Lead, Fahud Learning and Development Centre, PDO), and Mr TTA Rohanaraj (Head, Entrepreneurship Development Initiative, College of Banking and Financial Studies), debated brilliantly on the topic: “Thriving through Change in Business Dynamics, Human Capital and Switch over from Oil to Alternate Resources.” A brief synopsis of this discussion was presented by Mr Bijja Vishwanath after which all the four panellists were felicitated with memento by the dean of the college, Dr Said Masoud Al Kashoob.

Following that, the first technical sessions for paper presentation were held at three different venues from 11:15am to 01:00pm in the Lecture Theatre, Multipurpose Hall and B- 013 Free Access Lab. Lunch was served from 01:00pm to 01:40pm in the Multipurpose Hall. The second technical session was held in the Lecture Theatre and the Free Access Lab from 01:40 to 03:00 pm. Both of these sessions were evaluated by the panel of external and internal jury members. The presenters from HCT, CAS Rustaq, CAS Ibri, NCT, COT Shinas, Nizwa University, Dhofar University, Waljat CAS and Mussanah COT participated with 27 research articles. The technical sessions were hosted by Dr Ansarul Haque, Mr Bijja Vishwanath, Mr Sandeep Kale and Mr Asif Mahmood. The summary of the technical session was presented by Mr Bijja Vishwanath.

The valedictory seremony, hosted by Dr Ansarul Haque in the Lecture Theatre, began at 03:10 pm. The college dean, Dr Said Kashoob, HOD Business, Dr Nasser Al-Kalbani and previous HOD, Dr Mohammed Abed Ali, presented certificates of appreciation to the external members of the jury panel, Dr Vibha Bhandari (CAS, Ibri), Dr Balaji (CAS, Ibri) and Dr Saussen (CAS, Ibri). The paper presenters, NSBE 2018 organising committee members, special contribution members, alumni, student organisers, attendees and the best three papers were presented certificates of appreciation and mementos. The best three papers were “Does Integrated Marketing Communication Elements Influence Business Performance” by Dr Brinda Kalyani, Dr Dileep Kumar and Dr Normala from the College of Applied Sciences, Rustaq; Innovative Entrepreneurial Self –Efficacy and Career Choice” by Dr Kaneez Fatima, Dr Boumedyen and Dr Zunith Ahmed from Nizwa University; and “Do Whatsapp Display Pictures Reflect Users’ Personality Traits” by Ms Anjana, Ms Kruti Shah, Mr Alwin Thomas and Mr Mithun Srivastava from Waljat College of Applied Sciences, Muscat. The core committee members, Dr Nasser Kalbani, Dr Abed Ali, Ms Safiya Al-Hamdi and Dr Sanjay Saha, were presented with momentos by the college dean. The NSBE 2018 convenors, Dr Ansarul Haque and Dr Ashok Patanaik, co-convenors, Mr Muhammed Faisal and Dr Shaik Mastan Vali were presented with momentos. The college dean Dr Said Al-Kashoob, was honoured with a momento by Dr Nasser Al Kalbani. The vote of thanks was given by Dr Sanjay Saha. The event ended successfully with a High Tea break at 03:45pm.
