Oman IoT Olympics 2018

On Thursday, 10 May 2018, Ibri College of Technology participated in the final phase of Hackathon Day, the big event that is a part of Oman IoT Olympics 2018 hosted by the Higher College of Technology, Muscat.
The competition has three stages Creathon Day, Packathon Day and Hackathon Day.

The opening ceremony and Creathon Day (First Phase) was held on 18 April 2018, whereas Packathon Day (Second Phase) and Hackathon Day (Final Phase) were held on 30 April 2018 and 10 May 2018 respectively.

During the first day of the competition, each participating team was allowed to randomly pick an area from the five (5) different areas provided by the organising committee in the Project-based competition. Apart from the project-based competition, two individual events were conducted namely Quizbee and Packet Tracer Marathon.

The five (5) areas of the IoT Olympics 2018 competitions are the following:

  • Area I- Internet of Things Home
  • Area II-Industry of Things
  • Area III- IoT Oman-Smart City
  • Area IV-IoT Campus (Smart Campus) and
  • Area V- Internet of Everything

Each team was allowed to choose a domain randomly. The available domains are Environment, Pollution and Energy conservation.

All the students were enrolled in the Cisco portal on the Internet of Things course under the Cisco instructor Mr Junath Naseer Ahamed (IT).

Two successful projects were exhibited by Ibri College of Technology on the different areas and domains.

Ibri college of Technology won the Gold Medal with Prize Money of 400 Omani Riyals, for one of the projects on the Domain: Pollution in the area: Internet of everything.

The awards for the winners were presented by Her excellency Dr Muna bint Salim Al Jardani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Manpower for technical education and vocation training institute, Dr Khalid Abdulaziz Al Busaidi, college dean, Higher of Technology, and Dr Huda Al Shuaily, Head of the IT Department, Higher College of Technology.

Initially the project idea was shared by the students Ahmed Ali Musabah al Maqbali (Engineering Department) and guided by Mr Abdul Hafeez Sajid (Staff Engineering). We would like to thank them for their initiatives in this regard.

The other project, which was successfully exhibited by our students on the domain Environment in the area Industry of things, was equally scored as well, which was guided by Mr Someshwar Vashist (IT).

The IT department council motivated our staff members and students to be part of this big event. We would also like to thank the Cisco Teachers from the IT department for their full cooperation, and last but not the least we thank the engineering department council for their support.

A total of six students and two staff members participated from Ibri College of Technology, on the Hackathon Day, the final phase.
