An orientation program was conducted on Wednesday, 15 November 2017. The purpose of this program was to help students of the Information Technology Department who will move from Diploma Year 2 to Advanced Diploma during Semester 2 of AY 2017-2018 to choose their specialization.

The IT Department, through the Student Service Committee, conducted an in-house competition on 22 /10 /2017 – 26/10/2017 for the students of Ibri College of Technology to test their abilities and skills in the field of Information Technology and Mathematics. IT Competitions:

The objectives of this competition were to enhance the knowledge of IT skills amongst the students and to encourage the students to participate in technical competitions. The competition started with registrations on the college web site. There were five contests in the competition (web design, database, programming languages, and networking). In programming, the student used languages such as C++ and Java to write code for some problems and get the output. In the database design they used SQL language to create tables and modify them and insert data. In web design the students use HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, to design web pages and know how create a web site. In networking they solved questions about routers and switches, how to connect Ethernet cables and how they can connect them in a network.

The IT Department at Ibri College of Technology (IbriCT) inaugurated its first research group, the Data Mining Group, in a full day workshop organised in collaboration with the Arab Open University (AOU).

The aim of the workshop in general was to harness research skills and to promote a research culture within the college and in particular to foster increase awareness and understanding of research methods, proposal writing, and the publishing process.

In a short welcome address, Mr Younus Al Za'abi, Assistant Dean Academic Affairs (ADAA), highlighted the relevance of research and learning nexus with peer institutions. Mr Younus also stressed the importance of having quality academic research at Ibri College of Technology among staff and students so that they can assume a more proactive role in solving social challenges in different arena.

In IT

Student Induction Program was conducted on 04/10/2017. The purpose of this program was to welcome New Intakes of Diploma Year – 1 and Semester – 1 students of Information Technology Department.

This program was arranged by Ms. Fatma AL-Shamali, Student Services Committee Coordinatoralong with Ms. Fatma AL-Manthari, Committee Member. Two (2) active Advanced Diploma in Software Engineering students and iTech Club members were invited as speakers, namely, Khazeena Said AL-Alawi and Hasna AL-Ghasani. They gave information related to the different levels of courses, subjects, grades and credits. Information related to the different specializations in Advanced Diploma level, job opportunities and on the job training were also given emphasized. As speakers, they encouraged students to be part of student activity club as it helps enhance their skills as students and in their future.

Ms. Fatma AL-Shamli concluded the session by giving some important guidelines and shared some pieces of advice that will help students improve their academic performance.

There were 30 students who attended the program which started at 10.00 am in lab2 and ended at 11.30am. A feedback was conducted after the said program.

The IT Department at Ibri College of Technology has conducted a Course Projection Orientation Program held on 21st September 2017 at 10 AM in the VIP Hall. The main purpose of this program is to motivate and create awareness about student project among students.

The information Technology Department was happy to receive four of the newly recruited staff for the AY 2017-18 at the beginning of the semester. The Quality Assurance Committee along with the Department Council organized the new staff induction program on 28th September 2017 at 08:00 A.M in Lab 2.

The iTech club conducted an conducted an orientation of the specializations of the IT program on Wednesday 25/05/2017. The target audience was students moving to Diploma Year II in the next academic year. The objective of this program was to explain the IT different specializations offered by the Ibri College of Technology.

The orientation was chaired by Ms. Fatma Al-Shamali (iTech club coordinator) and Ms. Khazeena Al-Alwai (a student member of iTech club). The both gave brief information about the two available specialization offered starting from the next academic year, Software Engineering and Networking. In addition to explaining the structure of the specializations offered, Ms. Fatma and Ms. Khazeena highlighted few job prospects related the two specializations. They also presented some information relating to the official IT certifications related to both specializations.

Orientation Program was conducted on Wednesday, 10th May 2017. The purpose of this program was to welcome a new intake of Information Technology Diploma Year I students. This Program was chaired by Ms. Fatma AL-Shamali iTech club coordinator and Khazeena AL-Alawi a student member of the iTech club.

Staff Development Committee of IT department has organized a Seminar on “Virtual Reality – An Introduction and Awareness in the Sultanate of Oman” on 18th May 2017 at 10:00 am in VIP Hall. The objective of the programme was to create an awareness about virtual reality and its applications in different fields.

The Department’s Staff Development Committee had planned for a workshop series on “Introduction to LaTeX”. The last part of the workshop was organized on 11th May 2017 at 10:00 am in Lab-1 which was lasted for 1 hour and 45 minutes. The objectives of the programme were to:
