Introduction to LaTeX – Part-3

The Department’s Staff Development Committee had planned for a workshop series on “Introduction to LaTeX”. The last part of the workshop was organized on 11th May 2017 at 10:00 am in Lab-1 which was lasted for 1 hour and 45 minutes. The objectives of the programme were to:

  • Making Presentations
  • Creating Images with tikz
  •  Todo notes
  • LaTeX Collaborating

Mr. Brian, Committee Coordinator presented the welcome note and initiated the workshop. Dr. Duhai AlShukaili, IT Lecturer at Ibri College of Technology, commenced this workshop by summarizing various concepts conducted in past workshop sessions. Following which, he initiated the creation of presentations by providing an introduction to the “Beamer” class. He clearly explained the use of various tags that are responsible in creation of table of contents, heading, bulleted points and the flow of content to consecutive slides. He emphasized that slides here are referred to as frames.

Various questions were asked from the audience regarding the use of templates and themes for which the speaker pointed to the packages which needed to be downloaded or using existing packages. The tikz package was then discussed. The speaker specified the use of the package in creating simple shapes with color, coordinates, and few other options. He then discussed the sharing procedure for various projects with other collaborators. It was stated that sharing using ShareLatex is important, however for availing more benefits, account upgradation is required.

The session was concluded by HoS-Math, Dr. Pugalarasu who thanked the speaker for his consistent efforts in conducting these training workshop sessions which was attended by lecturers from different Departments.
