On 18th April 2018, Wednesday, Ibri college of technology has participated in the big event which is Oman IoT Olympics 2018 hosted by Higher College of Technology, Muscat. The Competition has three stages Creathon day , Packathon day and Hackathon day

The Opening ceremony and creathon day was held on 18th April 2018, whereas Hackathon Day (Final day/Closing day ) will be held on 09th May 2018.

In ELC

The ELC Students’ Activities Committee kept everyone on the edge of their seats during the recent speech competition held within the ELC.

The competition ran over two days.  The first day was on Sunday, 25 March 2018, seventeen students from Levels 1-4, took part.  At the end of the first round, six students qualified to go through to the final round.  The final was on Wednesday, 28 March 2018.

In ETC

A team of nine persons headed by the ECT Head of Centre, Mr Abduallah Shukaili, together with three section heads and staff members, joined the first ETC Workshop 2018 with the theme “Roadmap to Smart Campus” on 27 February 2018.

The workshop started with an opening ceremony held at their auditorium. A welcome speech was given and a video presentation regarding Smart Campus was shown. After that the first keynote speaker, Dr. Ahmad Al Hosni from SQU, shared his insights about “Roadmap to Smart Campus”. The second keynote speaker was Dr. Oualid Ali from GUTech. He shared valuable information about “Innovation for total Future and innovative Learning Experience”.

Hospitals need blood every day for transfusions to save patients who are under surgery or victims of accidents or in emergency conditions. As a part of a blood donation drive, IbriCT organized blood donation camps on September 25, and October 3, 2017, in association with Ministry of Health. Twenty-nine units of blood have been donated by staff and students.

In IT

Recently, Cisco Networking Academy announced the NetRiders 2017 competition through the Higher College of Technology – a local Cisco Networking Academy in Oman. Ibri College of Technology (IbriCT) was chosen to be the center for conducting the NetRiders 2017 competition for Al-Dhahirah Governorate. This is the second time that IbriCT runs the NetRiders competition.

The Staff Research and Consultancy Committee of the Department of Engineering organized a research orientation program titled, “Research Scope on Inter-laminar Fracture of Laminated Composites”, for the faculty members on Thursday, May18, 2017 at 10 am in the Manual Drawing Hall (B106). Dr.V.Alfred Franklin, Lecturer of Engineering Department was the speaker of the program and he addressed the research scope of aerospace composites and damage tolerance analysis.

In IT

Ibri College of Technology has commenced a Series of Workshops in SCL on May 4, 2017 at the Multipurpose Hall. The aim of these workshops is to give more practical ideas on delivering lessons using the Student-Centered Learning approach.

Duhai Alshekaili, a lecturer at the IT Department, was the first presenter for this 8-parts series. He demonstrated his proposed SCL model entitled “SCL Toolkit for Applied Courses” which can be adopted by many courses taught not only in the IT department, but also in Business and Engineering departments as well as for some ELC courses.

Duhai’s presentation was composed of two parts. The first part was a demonstration of the toolkit and the assessment which used to measure the course’s SCL-compliance.

SME-Development Fund in collaboration with college of technologies, conducted its first campus training sessions in its scheduled series of training in IBRICT on 8th and 9th of May,2017 in Multipurpose Hall from 8a.m to 4 p.m. On behalf of the college, the training was organised by Mr. Manikandan Sathyamoorthy, The coordinator of the Entrepreneurship Committee of the BSD. The target audience of the training was students who are currently studying entrepreneurship course across all the departments. There were 260 students in all. There were four sessions on each day of the training, and every section of students is required to attend a minimum of two sessions.

In the series of sessions planned for the development of staff, the Staff Research and Consultancy Committee of Business Studies Department organized a workshop on “AN INTRODUCTION TO PREZI” at Ibri College of Technology on May 4, 2017

Mr. Salim Al Maqbali, ELC lecturer and speaker of the said workshop, presented the “zooming presentation editor” of software PREZI as an alternative presentation tool inside classrooms instead of the traditional power point presentation.

In IT

The IT Department envisioned the implementation of Student-Centered Learning (SCL) in a more systematic manner. The Department Council constituted a pilot team to make the students and all teaching staff as well, understand the SCL concept. The pilot team was composed of Dr. E. Anupriya, Dr. Duhai Al Shukaili, Mr. Shaik Mastan Vali and Ms. Roselle Solitario. The team, through the Program Review Committee, came up with four models of implementing the SCL, based on four class of courses like: Application, Programming, Skill and Knowledge. The team developed various models based on the above class of courses like CASE Study Model, Prototype Driven Model, Master Mind Model and Skills Model.
