The Information Technology Department conducted a specialization orientation program on March 12, 2017. This orientation is especially organized for the students moving to advanced diploma level for the second semester of the present academic year. The objective of this program is to give an idea on various IT specializations available in Colleges of Technology.

Ibri College of Technology held a preparatory meeting with a number of the mining sector companies on March 16, 2017. The goal of the meeting was to involve companies working in the mining sector in the preparation of the “Mining Technologies Forum” the college is planning to hold in May 10 & 11, 2017 in collaboration with the Oman Chamber of Commerce – Al Dahira branch. The meeting had different activities starting with a welcome note by the Dean of the College – Dr. Said Kashoob. This was followed by a presentation on, “The Role of Advanced Technology in Mining & Quarrying Development” given by the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs - Mr. Younus Al Za’abi. After the presentation, the companies’ representatives participated in an open discussion during which they asked questions and exchanged opinions on the upcoming forum in which they are required to participate with paper presentations, round table discussions and the exhibition. After this interactive session, the guests got a chance to have a tour around the college to see some of its facilities and labs. The meeting was concluded with lunch at around 12:00 and words of gratitude by the Dean thanking the companies for their participation and support.

The English Language Centre spearheaded the 3rd English Language Teaching Professional Development Workshop with the theme “Paths to Empower, Engage and Enhance” on April 5, 2017 from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Ibri College of Technology.

The event kicked off with an opening speech from Mr. Jamil Al-Manasrah, the Head of the ELC, in which he stressed the usefulness of the workshops to teachers. He also mentioned that if teachers were well-equipped with what is new in pedagogy, their performances would be more beneficial to their students if they just focused on one traditional approach in language teaching methodology. Furthermore, he said that the workshop would emerge as a platform for sharing ideas, expertise, and trends among the qualified and learned fraternity.

Business Studies Department of IBRICT has participated in an Inter Collegiate Management Meet, titled as Synergy 2K’17 organized by the Business Department of Shinas College of Technology on 30th January, 2017, Monday. The various competitions in the meet were Business Quiz, Best Manager AD zap. Our college was represented in the business quiz by Ms. Amira Khamis Hamed Almajrafi, Ms. Thuraya Dhaboun Khalfan Al Majrafi, Ms.Kareemah Ali Saeed Al Kalbani.

Ms. Arwa Saif Salim Alnazwani, Ms. Khulood Saeed Mohammed Al Zaidi, have competed in the best Manger category.

Ms. Mezoon Said Hamed AL Bloushi , Ms. Tharwa Said Alshukili, and Ms. Lujain Khalifa Ali AL Majrafi have participated in Ad Zap where they tested to bring out their best advertisement designing abilities.

The team were accompanied by Ms. Manjula V, the faculty in charge of the business society of the BSD department.

As a part of commitment to strengthen and support continuous learning and developing professional competency of the members, the Staff Research and Consultancy Committee of Engineering Department IbriCT organized a seminar on the topic “Research Perspectives on Non Destructive Testing (NDT) for Engineers” on 26th January 2017. The Speaker, J. Arthur Davis Nicholas explained the scope of Non Destructive Testing (NDT) in various fields of engineering.

He presented various methods and techniques used for testing. He explained the recent techniques incorporated for NDT e.g. Radiography Testing, Ultrasonic Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing and Infrared Thermography. He further elaborated the research areas of Infrared Thermography in electrical, construction, process plant and quality tools. He also focused the need of the NDT and what serious accident took place in past around the world with small negligence in testing.

The ELC welcomed in November 2016 with a celebratory meeting in the VIP room to honour the launch of Tidings. Members of the Media Committee and special guests gave warm-hearted speeches to thank all contributors for their hard work and dedication to the project.

After a brief introduction by Ms Amal, Dr Jamil formally kicked off the occasion by expressing thanks to all those involved in the newsletter, and by describing it as 'an asset to the language centre and our institution.' A sentiment I'm sure we all share. Ms Amal then expressed her appreciation for and to the team, and stated that the next issue will be published in January.
