A team of nine persons headed by the ECT Head of Centre, Mr Abduallah Shukaili, together with three section heads and staff members, joined the first ETC Workshop 2018 with the theme “Roadmap to Smart Campus” on 27 February 2018.

The workshop started with an opening ceremony held at their auditorium. A welcome speech was given and a video presentation regarding Smart Campus was shown. After that the first keynote speaker, Dr. Ahmad Al Hosni from SQU, shared his insights about “Roadmap to Smart Campus”. The second keynote speaker was Dr. Oualid Ali from GUTech. He shared valuable information about “Innovation for total Future and innovative Learning Experience”.

The Health and Safety committee of IbriCT, in association with Ibri City Polyclinic (Al Misk Medical Group), Ibri organized a women’s health care programme on 22 February 2018. Dr Rekha Gopal Rao and Dr Meera Banu were the resource persons for this programme. The health care programme was organized in two parts. In the first part, Dr Rekha Gopal Rao presented the common challenges faced by women in their health.

The ELC, Health and Safety Committee headed by Mr. Ahmed El-Hussein organized a brief orientation on Sunday, February 25, 2018. The program was about raising the awareness among the ELC staff on, "How to Use the First Aid Kit”. The head of the committee showed the first aid box’s components and explained how to use each item. At the end, they had a discussion regarding some points and suggestions related to the topic.

The Engineering Department is going to offer a B-tech degree in Electrical Power from the next academic session 2018-19. Some of the engineering staff, including the head of the Engineering department, visited Majan Electric Company on Thursday, Ibri to observe the feasibility of lab experiments such as high voltage testing equipment along with scrap material, which are used by students to understand the theoretic concepts and for laboratory experiments.

The Business society of the Department of Business Studies organized two-day activities called ‘DAYS OF BUSINESS SPIRIT’ on 13 and 14 February 2018. The activities were conducted in the multipurpose hall, lecture theatre, VIP lounge, and college reception arena.

On 13 February the inaugural function began at 9am with the Recitation of the Quaran by student Abdul Hamid, in lecture theatre. The anchor for the program was Asaad Said Khamis Al Majrafi, Student Chairman and Dhuha Hamed Al Hinai, Business Society member. The HOD, HOS- HR, Business Society chairman Ms. Safiya Al Hamdi along with business society staff and student members were present on the occasion.

The first activity started at 9.30am with ‘50000 BAISA WINNER’ competitions. A total of 17 students from various departments took part in the competition. Ms Reema Masood Al Sadiri, student of Department of Business Studies and Mr Mohamed from the Engineering Department were declared the winners. The entire event was conducted by the student organizers Yaarub Salim Rashid Al Mamari, Thuraya Dhaboon Al Majarafi, Ruquiaya Sultan Al Kalbani Shihab Hamed Salim Al-Alawi. The second event, ‘AD-FAB’ was conducted at the multipurpose hall ADFAB. The students were given a theme of ‘KAWVA MARKETING’ in which three teams participated from various departments. The first prize was bagged by Mallak Suleiman Al Farsi, Asma Sai Al Abri, Mead Seif Al Farsi, Shaima Bakheet Al Ghafri from the IT Department. The judges for the competition were Dr Shaik Mastan Vali and Dr Ashok Kumar Patnaik from the Business Studies department.

Simultaneously, the third event ‘BUSINESS IS MINE’ by student entrepreneurs was also conducted at the same venue. There were eight participants - Laban Mohammed Abdallah Al Majrafi, Noor Jame Salim Al Yaqoobi, Amrou Mubarak Al Maqbali, Ahmed Said Al Adawi, Haitham Saif Ali Al Brashdi, Haitham, Moza and Aisha Maqbali. These entrepreneurs showcased their business exhibits and enthralled the visitors by their presentations. The student organizers for this event were Mohammed Khamis Al-Kaabi, Ahmed Saif Sulaiman Al Kalbani.

In the VIP Lounge, BIGDAY AUCTION 2 was conducted, and a total of 19 items were received for auction from various departments, in which 15 items were sold to difference staff members by bidding in the auction. The student organizers for this event were Mohammed Aamir Khamis Al Maqbali, Nasr Nasser Al Mamari and Sheikha Awadh Al Shukaili.

A ‘TROLLEY MARKETING’ event was organized by Business Society student members Ismail Said Khalifa Al-Balushi, Faisal Amor Al Kalbani, Hamman Said Issa Al-Shukaili. The organizers marketed various items by carrying them throughout the college premises and at last stopped at college reception for selling. This event created a buzz of curiosity among the onlookers who then thronged the reception hall to make their purchases. The ‘BUSINESS AMBASSORDORS’ event for HR and ACCOUNTING was conducted by HR and Accounting students, Said Bati Al Kalbani, Mazin Hamood Al Sankhi, Khalifa Khamis Al Yahyai, Hamed Khalifa Hamood Al Wahshi.

The overall decoration for all the events was done by student organizers Azza Nasser Al Mahrooqi, Amal Said Al-Zaraei, Lujina Hamad Al-Habsi, and Reema Masood Al Sadiri. Apart from these events, the ‘Business Studies Talent’ was also conducted at the Lecture Theatre and at the Multipurpose Hall. A total of 20 Students participated in program by showing their talents in traditional songs, poetry and Islamic songs. The First Prize in traditional songs was bagged by Waleed al Sarki. In poetry the winner were Zwenia and Ibrahim Shukali, and in Islamic songs Ali Alawi came out as the winner. The judges for the program were Ms Jokha Al Shamakhi, Mr Ali Al Ghafri, and Mr. Qassim Al Yaqoobi. The closing ceremony was held on 14 February in the multipurpose hall by rewarding all the winners of the competition, participants of various activities, judges of the competition, student organisers and staff organisers. The chairman of the committee, Ms Safiya Al Hamdi, overall in charge for ‘Days of Business Spirit’, Dr Manjula Veerabhadrappa and MS. Asia Al Mamari for ‘50000 Baisa’ Mr. Abdul Nasser Manakkancheri for Big Day Auction 2, Mr. Abdulmajeed Kadooran for AD-FAB and Business is Mine” were also felicitated. The Business Society thanks the dean, ADAA, ADSA, HR, ADMINISTRATION, FINANCE, staff and students for all support and cooperation.

The OJT Committee of the Department of Business Studies organised an industrial visit to the Chamber of Commerce, Ibri on 15 February 2018, for HR students with the purpose of imparting practical insights into HR planning and Business opportunities in Oman. Faculty members Mr. Bijja Vishwanath, Mr. Bijja Srinivas and Mr. Sayed Akram Pasha accompanied the students.

The visit began with a formal introduction of students with staff and working in different sections of the Chamber of Commerce. Mr Ismail Saif Salem Al Shmali Director, Chamber of Commerce, briefed students with vision and objectives of the organization. Later, the students were given a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the Sultanate of Oman’s HR plans, recruitment procedures, governments plans and policies for self-employment, and sustainable development. The students enthusiastically interacted with Mr Ismail Saif Salem and got their queries clarified and expressed satisfaction towards Government plans.

The Entrepreneurship Committee, Department of Business Studies, in coordination with the College OJT Committee, organized a programme on Women Entrepreneur’s Meet on 20 February 2018 in the colleges’ lecture theatre.

The session started with a presentation by Mr Moosa Al Alwai, student entrepreneur of Travel 365 Business. His presentation displayed the travel facilities offered to different destinations across different countries for all.

This session was followed by a talk by Ms Nadah Awad Alabri, owner of Elite Shop, Ibri narrating her challenges and opportunities in business for women in Oman. This talk was arranged in the form of an interview conducted by students.

On 29 January 2018, IbriCT OJT Committee in collaboration with Entrepreneurship Committee of Department of Business Studies organised a presentation on ‘Edlal’ – the first Omani open e-learning platform launched by Omantel. The presentation was held at the Lecture Theater of IbriCT.

Edlal is a knowledge-based platform that aims to contribute in preparing young Omanis to join the workforce by equipping them with the required skills and knowledge for the market. It also plays a dynamic role in enhancing the Arabic language content on the Internet with timely and reliable information.

The IQAC of the Business Studies Department organized a Student Induction Programme on 7 February 2018, in the Multipurpose Hall at 11.00am. The program was for the students who joined in Diploma – Level 1, in January 2018.

Dr Surendar, IQAC Coordinator, commenced the session by briefing the vision and mission of the college. He highlighted the organization structure, different courses offered in BSD, their credit hours, different policies which are available on the college website, the student assessment method, probation status, dismissal cases and other details. He explained the role of advisors and how it helps the students in pursuing their studies especially while choosing specialization and choosing right combination of courses to optimize their learning.

The Business Studies Department organized an induction programme for first year Diploma students at the college’s lecture theater (Ground Floor - Engineering building) on 5 February 2018. The programme’s objective was to provide guidance to the students and help them in selecting an appropriate specialization stream for their Diploma – II level and further studies at the college.

Dr Ashok Kumar Patnaik gave an overview on the need of specialization courses and their importance in future careers. He also presented a detailed presentation related to “Marketing Specialization”, which included the courses offered in Advance Diploma, Bachelor level. The presentation also covered different industries, which provide job opportunities for marketing specialization students.
